The Search for Self, Truth, or Something or Other
I told my buddy Alex that I wanted to improve my writing and he recommended I read poetry. He said it shifted his way of thinking. As I recall, Steve Jobs had his own way of finding inner peace and understanding with the world through non-marketing and non-design means as well. For example, meditating and vegetarian diets. And doing lots of drugs.
With the myriad of data so readily available on the web, it’s tempting to just refer to YouTube videos and online articles in the search for self improvement. Learn guitar, learn coding, get design inspirations…it’s all there. Seems like a no-brainer to simply depend on these rich resources to learn new shit. But since it appears to be the obvious choice, chances are everyone who cares about self betterment is doing the same thing.
Maybe the answer to true nirvana lies outside of the answers technology hands to us. What exactly is that, though? In our lifetimes, we will all have a finite number of experiences. What we do defines who we are. And surely no one wants to be defined by Wikipedia or cat videos.
So I guess my consolation is to get the fuck off the Internet and start doing shit. Whatever it is. Just stop this madness already.
